What we’re about
Having been known as the National Parks group for some time we have decided to rename the group to bring it into line with other groups we organise.
Watch this space as more great events will be added shortly.
Most events in our calendar are shared with other Meetup groups we are involved with so although sometimes it looks like only a small number are going the overall numbers may be much larger.

Thor's Cave from Warslow
Warslow, Quarter Ln, Warslow, Buxton,, Buxton, GBYour chance to explore the inside of one of the most amazing cathedral size caves in the UK not underground but perched right on the top of a hill. Amazing!
We also walk across the deepest mine in the world or thought to be in the 17th Century. Also amazing. The Ecton copper mine.
We of course spend lots of time in and around the wonderful Manifold Valley.
Please take LOTS of pictures and upload them to this Meetup page so everyone can see how much fun you had.
Dogs are welcome as long as not constantly barking and jumping up. Owners must keep dogs under control at all times and place on a lead when near farm animals or signs tell us to do so.
Bring snacks, fluids and a lunch packup. Waterproofs would be a good idea too.
Lift sharing is strongly encouraged, just leave a message below if offering or asking for a lift.
Please plenty of time for parking and kitting up just in case and share transport if you can.
We do not wait for latecomers!

Aviemore Cairngorms Four Day Easter Break 2026
Aviemore Youth Hostel, Grampian Road, Aviemore, GBAviemore and the Cairngorms in which the town sits is just THE most amazing location. Feted as Scotland's premier ski resort for good reason, outside of the ski season it hosts an amazing array of outdoor pursuits with walks that are just pleasant and scenic to some that are amongst the toughest in the UK. It is also a mecca for canoeing and paddleboarding, mountain biking and zip trekking to name but a few. Very much something for everyone.
Five of the top ten Munros are in this area but there are also lower Corbetts to choose from and some amazingly scenic lower level walks as well.
The spacious Aviemore Hostel is right in the town and to book this out exclusively for the Easter Weekend is just unreal.
We shall certainly make the most of this great opportunity.
For those that are up for it we certainly plan to tackle Cairngorm Mountain, Ben MacDui and Braeriach if the conditions permit it but there is so much to choose from we are spoiled for choice.
Help yourself breakfasts and lunch packups are provided as is hot food Friday, Saturday and Sunday night (see below) but feel free to bring desserts, cakes and other goodies to share as well as your own drinks. Tea and coffee will be provided.
Due to the very special nature of Aviemore with it's many fine venues for eating out we thought most people would want to do this at least once over the weekend so that is exactly what we have arranged. Spread over the three nights everyone eats in twice and out once for evening meals only. Deposits will be paid by the group with the rest paid individually according to what you order.
Accommodation is single sex bunk rooms of a variety of sizes with full bedding provided but not towels.
Saturday, Sunday and Monday routes will be discussed with everyone on arrival to ensure we are meeting overall expectations but on this weekend there are many routes we could choose from, so something for everyone.
For those booking NOW, the full cost of of the trip for 3 nights accommodation and catering as stated and four days walking is now just £59 deposit payable when you book plus Meetup booking fees and then two payments of £60 paid via BACS payable on the 1st February 2026 and 1st March 2026.

Dolgoch Wilderness Long May Bank Holiday Weekend in Mid Wales
Dolgoch Wilderness Hostel, Tregaron, Wales, GBFor those who like to get away from the pressures of normal life and to go to somewhere new, this is definitely the place for you. To get there you travel via Shrewsbury or Leominster which doesn't sound so far away but when you get there you are in a different world.
South of Snowdonia and North of the Brecon Beacons there is a massive strip of land some 25 miles high and 20 miles wide which has avoided the progress of time and development, where wildlife can live without the threat of pesticides and other chemicals, big enough to be worth exploring but small enough to make our own!
Come and experience the peace of this unique hostel location in the secluded Tywi valley in the heart of the remote Cambrian Mountains in Wales. A stay in this 17th century farmhouse will take you into an era before mains electricity of which there is none!
The historic former farmhouse has thick stone walls, a traditional Welsh slate floor and an amazing stone floored common room with a cosy wood burning stove. There is a well equipped kitchen with a gas cooker and additional gas hobs but no fridge. Solar power provides hot water for the showers and wash basins for most of the year and LED lighting for the downstairs areas. All bedding is provided so no need for you to bring your own duvets or sleeping bags.
Help yourself breakfasts and lunch packups are provided as is hot food Friday, Saturday and Sunday night but feel free to bring desserts, cakes and other goodies to share as well as your own alcoholic drinks. Tea and coffee will be provided.
The nearest shops are around 10 miles away in Tregaron or Llanwyrtyd Wells so best to bring it with you!
