About Son jarocho
Mexican folk music genre
Son jarocho ("Veracruz Sound") is a regional folk musical style of Mexican Son from Veracruz, a Mexican state along the Gulf of Mexico. It evolved over the last two and a half centuries along the coastal portions of southern Tamaulipas state and Veracruz state, hence the term jarocho, a colloquial term for people or things from the port city of Veracruz.
Son jarocho is a dynamic music style traditionally interpreted during Fandango parties, community celebrations are central to the son jarocho tradition of Veracruz, Mexico. This ritual includes string instruments, percussions, voice and verse, and rhythmic dance, usually with vast food, drinks and children playing around.
Son jarocho is a community practice that recognizes the autonomous groups in Mexico and preserves the original cultures from the countryside in Veracruz. Nowadays Son jarocho is practiced in many countries worldwide and has evolved to serve as a voice for the minorized and marginalized BIPOC societies to help bring more equality and peace for everyone
