  • Seven Hill Workout - Colectivo

    Colectivo Lakefront

Meet on the lawn north of Colectivo.

This is a 2-6 mile run with two to seven hills thrown in. Starts at Colectivo and runs up and down Lafayette Hill, Water Tower Hill, Ravine Hill (at the Bistro), and Kenwood Hill -- then back again in reverse. The two mile option skips the last two hills. A five mile option skips Kenwood Hill. Here's a link to the route.

    http://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/fullscreen/1004835619/

Beginners are always welcome to all our runs.

We'll keep running Hills on Thursday all winter unless the snow or ice become hazardous. Check the Meetup schedule frequently to be sure this run is happening each week.

We won't be racing up the hills, but rather aiming to maintain a constant effort up and down. Practicing this tactic in training will help on races with rolling hills and teach our bodies to avoid exerting too much energy.

Many runners attack hills too hard during a race. This workout is a great chance to practice running up (and down) hills while building endurance and leg strength.

  • Track Workout @ The Pettit Center

    500 S 84th St

Get out of the cold/snow and come and run with us on the indoor track!

The Pettit Center has a ~440m indoor track that circles around a long track speed skating oval.

    What does it cost?

The Pettit center charges $4 for admission. Make sure you stop at the desk and get a wristband when you arrive. BLS members get a 50% discount. By far the best deal is to buy a 10 pack with the BLS discount for $18. 10 packs never expire and can be used to buy admission for multiple people.

We highly recommend getting a BLS membership if you are planning on running a lot at the pettit as it comes with a ton of other benefits beyond discount admission and pays for itself in one ten pack purchase.

It's usually about 42 degrees. Short sleeves/shorts are usually fine with some long sleeves/pants or tights for warmups/standing around.

    What workouts do you do?

We usually do interval or tempo work that consists of 3-3.5 miles of hard running (6-7 miles total running) and is intended for training for anything from 5k-marathon or just winter maintenance of fitness. All of our workouts are completely optional- you're welcome to do a shorter/longer version or do your own thing.

    Example workouts are 12*400 or 2 min/1 min on/off 35 min fartlek.

Do I have to be fast to show up?

NO! Everyone is welcome! The workouts are designed for all ability levels and can be easily modified. You can also just come, hang out, and run laps. Plus, we run in circles so you'll never really be running alone. Just show up!
