Topic: GSAP (GreenSock Animation Platform) is a collection of small JavaScript animation libraries that support everything from the most basic of tweens to highly synchronized timeline animations. The goal of this lightning talk is to not only familiarize you with the basic constructs of GSAP, but walk through some simple examples you could use today in your apps, including a quick GSAP transition added to elements of the Angular 2 TypeScript "Tour of Heroes" tutorial.

Topic: Callback hell, memory leaks, race conditions, these are the things of nightmares for asynchronous programming. RxJS treats asynchronous events as first-class citizens providing a clean and easy to use set of tools to assist any JavaScript programmer with problems such as these.

Topic: Tableau is a great platform for visualizing and analyzing your data. Writing a Web Data Connector gives the public, or your customers, an instant and easy way to pull data into Tableau. I'll go over where to start when writing a WDC, and show off some interesting examples.

Topic: Skyring ( node.js ) - JavaScript's Asynchronous timers are incredibly useful and provide a level functionality not available by other Languages or queuing solutions. They are, however, brittle and unreliable in distributed, stateless server architectures. Skyring provides JavaScript's timer functionality as a distributed service over a dead simple API that can be used from any language - especially synchronous languages like python, ruby, java and even rust with out threads or complicated queuing semantics. I'll show you how it works.

Topic: OpenAQ is an open-source project dedicated to providing easy access & presentation to worldwide air quality data. The project takes in government & research data from 4,717 sources, was nominated for the Open Science Prize, and is coming off a rather popular Reddit AMA on /r/science. The open-source community behind OpenAQ is ripe for JS contributions, in developing the API, integrating new data sources, and, the focus of this talk, expanding the functionality of their React web app, on which I've begun working.

Lightning talks are back again for 2017! So what are lightning talks? Well they are a ~10 minute talk and during this event we hope to have at least 4 different topics with a max of 8. They are a great way to getting into speaking without doing a full talk. The description will be updates as talks get added.
This year there is a twist. Instead of focusing on just some library/framework/tech and talking about that, we are urging speakers to considering showing off work they have done is cool or interesting to them. Maybe you created an interactive map or slack bot, maybe it just a really nice web site. While tech talks are still ok, we wanted to broaden what is accepted for a lightning talk this year in hopes to get more people to speak.
This doesn't have to be side project development, We encourage you to talk to your employer and ask about showing off development you have done at work too. We know there is a lot of awesome that happens in Milwaukee and we want you to show off that awesome. If you need some tips for convincing your employer, feel free to reach out to us.
