8-Week Mindfulness Training Workshop: Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction

MBSR is an intensive, intimate, internationally-renowned 8-week mindfulness training course, modeled after the classes offered at the Stress Reduction Clinic developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.

This 35-year-old program is highly respected in the medical community, and is offered in more than 800 hospitals worldwide.

The lifelong techniques taught are clinically proven to dramatically help with such things as: stress, chronic pain, fatigue, headaches, anxiety, panic, depression, fibromyalgia, sleep disturbances, high blood pressure, menopausal symptoms, cancer, radiation, chemotherapy, addiction recovery, and age-related brain atrophy, among a host of other things.

Along with mindful dialogue/communication, mindful eating exercises, and a wide range of mindfulness techniques – including sitting and walking meditations, gentle yoga, and relaxing body scans (each of which can be modified to suit different body types and conditions), you are provided with a deep, experiential, integrated learning about the many and varied ways in which you can harness the power of your mind and body to reduce pain, stress, and illness, establish your own unique daily practice, and create more joy and ease in your life.

The TEACHER: Shell Fischer, founder and guiding teacher of Mindful Shenandoah (www.mindfulvalley.com) offers more than 30 years of extensive mindfulness practice and study. She is a Buddhist teacher, trained in the Tibetan Vajrayana tradition at Naropa University – the nation’s leading contemplative university – and in the Theravadan Vipassana (Insight) tradition by Dr. Tara Brach – one of the world’s foremost Insight teachers. She is a graduate of the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction teacher-training program led by Jon Kabat-Zinn, founder of MBSR and the Stress Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. Prior to teaching, Shell wrote about mindfulness and yoga for national magazines.

Healing Lane Yoga Studio, Winchester, VA *(No class Oct. 3)
A half-day retreat included in this workshop will be Nov. 7 from 12:30-4:30 p.m.

*The $525 fee for the workshop includes all eight 2.5-hour classes, audio recordings, a workbook, and the half-day retreat.
