Class Description:
Emotions are energy in motion and are the drivers of our health. Since how we feel influences the chemicals in our body, affecting our immune system, our heart, and overall health, the secret is to channel those emotions. Instead of repressing or acting out on them, you want to take that energy and use it towards creative self-expression. One of the best outlets to channel your emotions is through writing/journaling, and some of the benefits include reducing stress, improving mental health, memory, and focus. Through various writing prompts, it allows you to connect within to your inner wisdom, where you can gain insight by communicating with your soul's voice. Writing also helps to develop language, where you can label your feelings/emotions, an effective way to understand complex emotions. There are numerous benefits when it comes to writing and this class is for all adult ages no matter where you are on your journey. The path towards oneself is never ending and for those who are willing to dive deep, the process can be most rewarding. At the start of each class, we will begin with deep breathing, grounding exercises, and mindfulness, followed by 10 minutes of free writing. Free writing clears the mind of emotions and cutter and is a process of writing nonstop without editing or stopping to think, judge, or evaluate, so that it doesn’t result in a repression of thoughts and emotions you may find unacceptable. It also can help explore emotional issues on a deeper level, and as a form of practicing non judgement, you can learn to accept yourself as you are. A main topic will be explored each week and Ill give writing prompts for you to dig deeper and unravel what your feelings, thoughts, and ideas may be. For those who really tap into their self-expression, there is a path that leads towards accessing your inner wisdom where you can uncover your truth, providing the guidance needed upon your journey. Towards the end of class I welcome and encourage any questions, comments, and thoughts regarding personal experience. Many times, it’s through our sharing of experience where great insight can be found. I then come to a closing by weaving any new perspectives, fresh insights, and personal truths by incorporating each of your learnings into meditation, so a deeper, more meaningful experience can occur. When we make meaningful connections and embed them into practices such as meditation, it brings us closer to our true selves in profound ways.Jennifer’s Bio:
Though the world of writing was introduced as a positive experience through winning writing contest and scholarships, it wasn’t until much later in life that I began to use writing as a tool to manage my emotions and further my self-development. For me, writing is an amazing tool that has helped me through trauma, uncovered my true desires, and is what seems to bring me a sense of peace. I recommend writing for everyone, but especially if you relate to being highly sensitive and/or emotionally intense. My background includes majoring in English at the college of Southern Idaho for two years and I also attended a 13-month alternative healing program where I had a class in journaling and was taught how to incorporate various writing exercises. Currently, I am building my own practice where I utilized the expressive arts to help others manage emotions and maintain their energy, and I’m also nearing the end of a one-year Mind/Body Psychology program where I was taught mindfulness. It is through my own personal spiritual journey that I understand the importance of meditation and how to conduct the practice properly. Meditation induces a mode of consciousness where eventually reaching a higher level of awareness is achieved. I am particularly careful when leading, never to bypass the critical factor of the conscious mind.Heal One World is a nonprofit dedicated to providing holistic preventative healthcare services and low or no cost—no one is turned away due to lack of funds.
