About us
"You're not alone" is the message we always hear. Yet for too many people, mental ill health means isolation. Let's turn that around, and make it something we can bond over.
Minds in Motion is a new peer support group for people in London with current or former experience with mental ill health looking to connect with others facing similar struggles. We can't be, and are not aiming to be a substitute for psychiatric intervention for those who need it, but what we do seek to offer is a friendly and understanding environment for those who'd sooner be together than alone.
We don't want only to welcome people living with more "acceptable" illnesses such as major depression (although yes, that too!) but for those with experience of OCD, psychosis, dissociation, schizophrenia, personality disorders and more.
We want to aim for alliance between patients and professionals. Accordingly, we would also welcome allies who work in mental health or want to, who may or may not have struggles of their own.
This group might appeal to you if:
- You want to connect with others with shared experiences of mental ill health, in person and/or online.
- You're interested in learning about how others manage their situations.
- You feel like you have to hide what you are living with most of the time.
- You find groups that aren't aware of mental health struggles difficult.
- You're interested in mental health beyond your own needs and are interested in mental health related activities.
- You work in mental health or are interested in doing so.
- Optionally, you're interested in light advocacy and activism around mental health (emphasis on light - we very much do not want to glue ourselves to anything).
- You just find cra-cra mad people more interesting ๐
We want to be cross-cultural and safe for people recovering from or vulnerable to addiction, so we will avoid meeting in pubs and choose activities that don't involve alcohol. At the moment, the group is in the early stages of formation and in the process of gauging interest, but one activity being considered is visiting the Museum of the Mind at Bethlem Hospital.
If you want to set your mind in motion, this group might be for you.
