Details
#### The Life of Letitia Wright of Hollins Hall - Talk
#### A Demonstration in Hampsthwaite!
##### No Beer, More Cheer . . .
Demonstrations down Hampsthwaite High Street were a common sight when Letitia Wright led the village’s Band of Hope. Letitia gave a local voice to the national temperance cause and inspired young people to take a stand against drink.
In 1890, she built the Hampsthwaite Village Room in memory of her husband — a place where men could pay a penny to read newspapers instead of going to the pub.
This talk explores her leadership in the Temperance Movement, the private diaries she kept in her final years, and her life in Hollins Hall, Hampsthwaite.
