Breathtaking Surprise View Amble at Otley Chevin & Picnic

Join us for a stunning short walk across Otley Chevin, one of West Yorkshire’s most dramatic viewpoints. This easy-paced circular walk covers around 3 miles and offers big views with relatively gentle walking, making it a great option for anyone wanting maximum scenery without a long distance.

The Chevin is a landscape shaped by Ice Age glaciers and rich with layers of history. As we walk, we’ll follow well-defined paths, passing prehistoric stones and sections of an old Roman route that once linked York, Tadcaster and Ilkley. Along the way, there will be time to pause, enjoy the views over Otley and the surrounding countryside.

Our destination is the famous Surprise View, where the landscape opens up dramatically. This is where we’ll stop at the end of the walk for a relaxed picnic, taking time to soak up the views and enjoy the setting together. Please remember to bring your own picnic and something to sit on.

THE IMPORTANT BIT:
As daring adults, let’s embrace our adventurous spirits! Your safety and that of your fellow explorers are in your capable hands. When you RSVP for this trail, you accept that you remain responsible for your own safety at all times.
TIMINGS: We will meet at 10.30 am. The walk is approximately 3 miles and will take around 2 hours, including stops and time for a picnic at the end.
DIRECTIONS: Meet at the Surprise View car park opposite The Royalty Pub (LS21 3DG). LCC states that it's £1.20 for 2 hours, which you can pay at their contactless machine or on the app.
PRE-APPROVED DOGS: We only allow calm, well-controlled dogs that are used to group walks and can remain on a lead at all times. All dogs need to be pre-approved by the hosts of the event - please do not bring a dog unless you have checked with us first.

This event is FREE. However, we will be collecting optional donations for Mind, the charity supported by our Adventure Group.
