About us

This group is for anyone who identifies as Asexual (Ace) and/or Aromantic (Aro) - or on either of those spectrums - and is looking to make new friends and/or forge new relationships.

While we love our allies, membership in this particular group is only open to those who are on the Ace/Aro spectrum, in order to maintain a “safe space” for our community.

Any Ace/Aro in the greater Twin Cities Metro area is encouraged to join.

For more information about Asexuality, please visit:
AVEN (Asexuality Visibility and Education Network)

We welcome any member organizing and hosting events, so please feel free to reach out for Event Organizer/Host status. (We no longer have the ability to have the group set so that anyone can create/host events).

Here are a few tips to help everyone in this group have the best experience possible:

1 - Treat people with respect and kindness. We, as a community, deal with enough discrimination and drama. Let’s not do that to each other. And remember, consent is mandatory. If someone doesn’t want to engage with you, you must respect that. Reports of abusive and unwanted behavior will be reviewed by the group’s Organizers, and handled on a case-by-case basis. The group’s Organizers reserve the right to remove and/or ban members for behavior that goes against the “SAFE SPACE GUIDELINES AND RULES(below).

2 - Have fun! And please show up if you RSVP “Yes.” Event Organizers/Hosts are volunteers, and work hard to put together events. If you can't make it, let them know as soon as possible.

3 - Be responsible. If you have drinks at an event, please don't drive while intoxicated.

DISCUSSION GUIDELINES:

1 - Please be respectful of others, their views, and their beliefs. Members expressing disrespect towards others - or otherwise devaluing others - may be removed.

2 - Encouraged discussion topics: Sharing experiences, asking for/giving advice, event ideas, suggestions for ways to improve the group, friendly socialization, book/movie recommendations, etc. Make this group what you want it to be!

3 - Please no: Unsolicited advertising/self-promotion (resource sharing is fine, though), harassment, negative/stereotypical comments targeted towards specific groups of people, etc.

SAFE SPACE GUIDELINES AND RULES:

1 - Please be respectful of everyone. This is a friendly, open-minded, accepting, diverse group - where everyone should feel safe and comfortable.

2 - No bullying, hate speech, intimidating, or rudeness - towards other group members - will be tolerated.

3 - No member may have any Organizer, Co-Organizer, or Event Organizer/Host blocked in this Meetup group - for logistical reasons.

4 - Every member’s profile must include a clear photo of themselves. Avatars or blank profiles are no longer allowed. This is to ensure we can all find each other at meetup events. Since our meetup group is set to “private,” no one - other than our own members - will see your photos.

These “SAFE SPACE GUIDELINES AND RULES” help ensure that everyone feels welcome, and affirmed.
