About us
I'm proposing a new meetup group for fans of modern and contemporary "classical" music, pretty much any "serious" music written in the age of Claude Debussy and later. Because this would be a brand new group, I am not sure exactly what types of activities we'd be pursuing, but these possibilities come to mind:
- Attending as a group local performances of modern/contemporary music, followed by discussion at a nearby bar, coffee shop, restaurant, etc.
- Casual presentations led by one member of the group for the benefit of other group members. Topic could include specific pieces, composers, and movements in modern/contemporary music.
- Casual listening session where each member is invited bring a recording of a specific pieces they like (perhaps 15 minutes max), which we'd listen to and discuss.
- Meeting over coffee or other inspiring beverage just to chat and "geek out" on music we love or are at least curious about.
To get the ball rolling, below are some pieces that I particularly adore and would love to discuss with other, likeminded people. My tastes go way beyond these and include something of nearly every sub-general, perhaps only excepting the kinetic extremes of spectrallism and new complexity. If you don't recognize the names of these schools of modern music, congratulations! :-)
Composers and specific pieces I LOVE:

Modern music show, tell, discuss
Location not specified yetAs a first group event, I was thinking of inviting y'all to my place for drinks (with or without alcohol or caffeine, I'll have some or bring your own) and a bit of musical show-and-tell. I live at 9555 W 82nd Pl, Arvada 80005, yellow house on corner near Wood Run III neighborhood's pool, close-ish to Kipling and 80th.
Each of us can play part of and discuss one or two pieces we particularly love and would like to share with others, that simple. I can host up to 6 people in our modest living room. On our large-ish TV with a nice soundbar and can play CDs, DVDs, MP3s, or online content, so you can bring the media type of your choice.
To give you an idea of what I'll probably discuss, Philip Glass' Einstein on the Beach has been on my mind recently. If you have 4.5 hours to spare :-) a video of the entire "opera" is on YouTube -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UK0tzdCRjzc
Start times of a few parts I particularly like (names are from memory, not entirely correct):
1. Court scene, "Mr. Bojangles...": 1:10:10
2. Dance: 1:45:08
3. Knee Play (choir): 2:24:01
4. Bed: 3:44:161 attendee
