Believe it or not, summer is almost here, so let's meet up to catch the sunset AND watch the full moon rise at the same time, while enjoying time with new and existing friends who also appreciate sunsets.
Summer Solstice is Thursday, June 20th (1 day earlier than usual due to Leap Year). Although the full moon is actually Friday the 21st, it will be about 99% full on Thursday, and will rise up about the same time as the sunset (8:30 PM).
2 choices:
- Meet us early at Phoebe's Cafe at 7 PM to hang out on the patio area of Asilomar Hotel/Conference Center. At 8 PM, we will walk to Asilomar Beach along a trail that should take 5 minutes. The cafe closes at 5 PM, but there's a nice seating area with plenty of chairs outside the cafe. Bring your own snacks and refreshments.
or
- Meet at Asilomar Beach at 8:10 PM. We will gather on the beach (close to the water) about 100 feet south of the stairs, near the rocks. Just look for a group of 10-15 people enjoying the sunset.
Bring along any refreshments and snacks that will enhance the sunset experience.
The full moon will likely rise above the peninsula around 8:30, exactly the same time as the sunset.
Dress warm. Clouds & fog will NOT cancel the gathering. We will just have to have a very good imagination.
Phoebe's Cafe is in the middle of the Asilomar Hotel & Conference Center in Pacific Grove. The patio is on the ocean side of the main building's registration and lobby area. Address: 800 Asilomar Ave, Pacific Grove, CA 93950. There are parking spaces scattered throughout the grounds. Meet us between 7-8 PM outside the cafe, on the patio where the chairs are situated for a nice view.
Or... meet us at Asilomar Beach at 8:10 PM.
Since there is no address for that beach, just use the address of Fish Wife restaurant for your driving destination (1996 Sunset Dr, Pacific Grove, CA 93950), and either park near the restaurant or anywhere along Sunset Dr. between the restaurant and the beach area. The restaurant is about a 2 minute walk from Asilomar Beach. There should be parking on Sunset Dr. We will be gathered about 100 feet from the bottom of the stairs, close to the water.
See the posted photos to understand more of the layout of both areas.
