Join us for a chilled afternoon exploring nature’s beauty and snapping some photos.
Jodie runs Moss & Mates a regular nature connection event group, this time partnering with Luke, a photographer and workshop facilitator. Through this event we will combine nature connection prompts with a mindful photography walk.
Nature connection workshops are a chance to connect with the senses and notice what is around you. So often, even when we take the time to get out in nature, we are walking at pace or distracted by our own thoughts. This is a chance to slow down and take prompts from our facilitators such as 'noticing textures of bark' or 'finding a sit spot by a tree and looking upwards'. Some prompts will be individual, and some in small groups.
A photo-walk is an organised outing where a group of people interested in photography journey through a specific area to take pictures. Drawing inspiration from Sophie Howarth’s book The Mindful Photographer, these workshops combine the core aspects of a photo-walk with mindfulness exercises throughout key waypoints of the walk, including a grounding technique, perspective and object contemplation exercises to encourage different ways of creative thinking in a relaxed and playful learning environment.
Open to all levels of experience, these walks focus less on the technical elements of how to take a perfect picture, but more on ways in which we can connect with our senses through noticing and observing the micro and macro livings worlds of nature that we sometimes may overlook within our day-to-day lives.I normally ask people to bring their own cameras but am currently looking into purchasing some point and shoot cameras attendees could use too.
