Basic Mountaineering Skills - Introduction to Knots and Hitches

Details

Interested in technical climbing on big mountains? Knowing the knots and hitches you’ll need is a foundational skill. Please join me for a hands-on session to learn some of the basics you’ll need for climbing, glacier travel/rescue skills, and rappelling.
Note - most of the knots are also useful for other outdoor adventures such as backpacking and camping.
We will cover the following:

Knots -
Overhand
Overhand on a bight
Bowline
Retrace Figure 8 (standard climbing tie-in)
Figure 8 on a bight (glacier travel tie in)
Alpine butterfly
Double fisherman
Water knot (aka retrace overhand) for
webbing

Hitches -
Clove
Munter

Friction Hitches -
Three wrap Prusik
Autoblock (with belay extend, for rappelling)

Participants will need to bring a climbing harness, tube style belay device (ATC or similar, not a GriGri), one locking carabiner, and one non-locking carabiner. Ropes, cordellete, and webbing will be provided.

Class size is limited due to the hands-on nature of the training.

Questions or need more information, please contact me here or text me (no calls please) at 303-949-9794.
