What we’re about
Our group purpose is to help people develop basic mountaineering skills, which will involve class time and field trips. The idea is to build outdoor skills so people become more comfortable on mountaineering trips that require an ice ax, rope, and snow camping. Some of the topics covered included basic ice ax, basic mountaineering knots, ice ax arrest, rope travel, belay & rappel, crevasse rescue, and snow camping.
This Meet up is ideally suited for people having some experience hiking, backpacking, and mountaineering who want to learn the skills needed to summit the WA volcanoes and other WA top 100 peaks. Even though Mountain Basics is not, yet a comprehensive professional course on mountaineering, members are shown the basic concepts needed to climb safely in groups in decent weather with other people who have experience. Typical activities will be a class covering an aspect of climbing like tying in, rope travel, or crevasse rescue where members can sign up for field trips to practice techniques covered in class.
Some classes will be on the Eastside while others will be in Seattle.
