Betsy Levin Memorial Hike, 5-6 Moderate Miles

Details

## Details

This hike is in honor of the late Betsy Levin, who passed on July 4, 2023. Betsy was a truly remarkable individual (law school dean, Presidential Fellow during the Carter administration (she considered being called "woke" a compliment), world traveler, Shakespeare afficianado, opera lover, strong hiker and snow drop admirer) and friend. We planted some snow drops for her memory in an off-the-beaten-path area of the park last fall and are hoping to see them emerging on a short side-trip during this hike.

The hike is expected to be about 5 - 6 miles in length with several hundred feet of elevation gain. We'll aim for a walking speed of about 2.0 to 2.5 MPH. If you haven't completed a similar hike recently, please don't sign up for this hike. The Mountain Club offers several hikes of varying difficulty each week.

The trails are normally in good shape but expect rocky and rooty sections with mud. There are several usually modest stream crossings. Waterproof boots are highly recommended. We'll have a snack break abut half-way through the hike with an optional brown bag lunch after the hike.

Here's where we'll step-off: 39.299, -76.839, on the east side of the school building. There's a large parking lot associated with the school so parking shouldn't be a problem.
