Holifield area hike of 5-6 miles with 600 feet of climb F*R*I*D*A*Y
Overview
Challenging, scenic hike for you who recently tackled similar terrain, enjoy a steady pace, rocky trails, and a friendly group energy.
Details
This version of the hike will probably be 5-6 miles with a cumulative elevation gain of 600 feet or so. It's one of my favorites with hills and valley views. We'll aim for a walking speed of about 2 1/4 mph. There are no stream crossings. We'll be using some trails new to us so be prepared for some glitches. Some areas are grassy so long trousers and bug spray are recommended. There is one rocky downhill section where poles and sturdy boots will be useful.
We'll have a streamside brown bag lunch at about the half-way point and a brief snack about half-way between lunch and the finish.
Please don't sign up for this hike unless you've completed a hike of similar difficulty recently.
Be prepared for rocky and rooty trails and copious mud. Sturdy waterproof hiking boots are HIGHLY recommended for the new trail section as it's quite rocky particularly at the beginning/end.
