The aim of this hike is to locate a downed tree obstructing the trail, record its GPS location, take some photos and determine if it's realistic to remove the tree with bow and pruning saws. We will not attempt to remove the tree on this trip.

This version of the hike will probably be 4-5 miles with a cumulative elevation gain of 400 or so feet, maybe less depending on the exact location of the tree.

This hike is a version of one of my favorites with hills, valley views and riverside walking. We'll aim for a walking speed of 2 1/4 mph. There are some (usually modest) stream crossings. We'll be using some trails new to us so be prepared for some glitches.

Woodstock Inn specials on Tuesdays are half-price cheesesteaks (PDG) and 2-for-1 beers (PDC). I hope we can interest some post-hike attendees.

Please don't sign up for this hike unless you've completed a hike of similar difficulty recently. Our parent club, The Mountain Club of Maryland (MCOMD.org), offers weekly hikes of varying difficulty (easy to strenuous) each week. Check the website for details.

This is a lollipop hike with the stick being about a half mile. We'll be on the north side of the river between Woodstock, from where we'll step off, and then go downstream toward Daniels and loop back to Woodstock.

We'll have a snack break at the site of the downed tree.

Be prepared for rocky and rooty trails and copious mud. Sturdy waterproof hiking boots are HIGHLY recommended.
