An icy 6 miles in McKeldin
Details
Expect 5-6 miles with about 500’ of gain at a pace of 1.5-2.0 mph. Lunch will be along the trail.
Two days ago I walked on SOME of the trails I plan to use for this hike. I experienced highly variable conditions including some easy-to-follow previously broken trail. The not so easy parts were randomly punching through the top layer of ice, and trying to navigate areas of large broken up chunks.
I have no idea what the conditions will be like on Thursday. Microspikes will be necessary and poles are highly encouraged. As with last week’s hike, keep the uncertain conditions in mind before signing up and if you haven’t hiked with us before, please don’t sign up for this hike. No first-timers will be accepted.
Priority Note: meetup hike leaders have priority status for placement.
We will meet at McKeldin at the lot just beyond the ranger station for a 9:30 start. GPS: 39.359289,-76.889076
