🔒 Want to attend? This Meetup won't show location or tickets — full access is in the "About Mountain Jew" section below.
Join us for the West Coast launch of "Be a Refusenik: A Jewish Student's Survival Guide" with Izabella Tabarovsky, Z3 Senior Fellow.
Tabarovsky will be in conversation with Zack Bodner, President and CEO of the OFJCC, for a focused discussion about Jewish refusal in the face of ideological pressure.
Drawing from the core ideas of her new book, Tabarovsky traces a striking parallel between two generations of Jews. Today, many Jewish students find themselves navigating environments where they are pressured to accept distorted narratives, submit to ideological litmus tests and distance themselves from their Zionism, their connection to Israel and their place in the Jewish people's story.
With decades of research into Soviet antizionism, contemporary left antisemitism, Soviet Jewry and Stalin's repressions, Tabarovsky offers more than analysis. She offers practical strategies—grounded in history, clarity and moral confidence—to equip a new generation of Jews to stand firm without surrendering nuance, dignity or peoplehood.
Come hear from a leading scholar and writer and reflect together on what it means, in our time, to refuse erasure and to lead our people into a vibrant Jewish future.
Copies of "Be a Refusenik" will be available for purchase at the event. You may also pre-purchase a book with your ticket, to be distributed at the event.

✡️ About Mountain Jew
Mountain Jew is a community exclusively for Jewish young professionals in the Bay Area. Jewish people make up less than 0.2% of the world's population, so having spaces like this to connect with one another is incredibly meaningful — we kindly ask that this be respected.
This is where people don't just show up to events — they actually meet, connect, and build real friendships. From hikes to dinners to social gatherings, it's a community that's active, welcoming, and easy to plug into. For the comfort and safety of our members, full event details (including exact locations) are shared only with verified MJ members.
