Mountaineering zone2 training hike (for strong hikers)
Details
This hike is for experienced hikers only and will be very challenging for those who hike infrequently. Please be prepared to keep a steady group pace of at least 2 miles per hour so we can stay together and keep the hike running smoothly.
We’ll meet at the Washburn Trailhead in Cold Spring at 9:30 AM. From there, we’ll start on the Bull Hill Short Loop. Before completing the loop, we’ll turn onto the Undercliff Trail, which leads up to Breakneck Ridge. From there, we’ll descend via the Breakneck Ridge Bypass Trail, merge onto the Nimham Trail, and then join the famous Breakneck Ridge Trail—where the rock-scrambling fun happens! Finally, we’ll descend along the Undercliff Trail and return to the Washburn Trailhead via the Cornish Trail.
7.5 miles, 3200ft gain and plenty of fun!
This hike is especially useful for those who have upcoming mountaineering or hiking trips. We’ll focus on footwork, pacing, and breathing.
For those taking public transportation, we’ll meet at Grand Central at 7:45 AM to catch the 7:57 AM train to Cold Spring.
If you have any questions, then please send a message to the organizer.
