May Classics : A Man for All Seasons (1966)

Details
The story of Henry VIII's battle with the Catholic Church has been told many times, but this film takes it on from the point of view of Sir Thomas More, the lawyer, judge, theologian and friend of King Henry who fatally refused to bless his divorce and especially his self appointment as head of the English Church. Centuries later he was canonized as Saint Thomas More.
This film, beautifully filmed and superbly acted headed by Paul Scofield's Oscar winning performance, includes Robert Shaw (Henry), Susannah York(Margaret), Leo McKern(Cromwell), Wendy Hiller(Alice) and even Orson Welles (Wolsey).
The movie was nominated for eight Academy awards and won six including best picture, director (Fred Zimmerman), actor (Scofield), and nominations for best supporting actress (Hiller) and actor (Shaw).
