At Dave’s last Classic, we discussed working more silent films into the lineup, so my pick this month is what some consider Alfred Hitchcock’s directorial debut (although he actually directed one movie before it), 1927’s silent mystery-thriller, The Lodger: A Story of the London Fog.

This atmospheric yarn stars the brilliant—and handsome—Ivor Novello as a young man who moves into a boarding house just as a spate of murders is happening in the neighborhood. What’s his deal, anyway? We’ll find out as we observe nascent Hitchcock exhibiting glimmers of his future brilliance.

Can’t wait to share and discuss this one and hope to detect as many Classics lovers as possible creeping through the fog this Sunday!
