UNSUNG GEMS: The Final Countdown
Kirk Douglas is commanding the USS Nimitz on routine maneuvers when a storm swallows the ship and spits it out on December 6, 1941. That's right: the most advanced aircraft carrier on Earth is now parked 300 miles from Pearl Harbor with about a day to decide whether to scramble the F-14s and change history, or stand down and let the Japanese fleet do its thing. Martin Sheen plays the civilian who has to talk through the ethics while everyone else is mostly thinking "we could end this war by lunch."
Actually filmed on the USS Nimitz while it was at sea, with real Navy crew, real F-14 Tomcats, and real pilots. The Navy used the movie as a recruiting tool until Top Gun came out six years later!
