Musk - Read description!
Details
I had planned to see this documentary on my own, with ratings of 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, and 7.3/10 on IMDB, as other members have done and were planning to do - because it is loooong and I didn't think it would be a popular pick. Then, I read this article: https://www.showbiz411.com/2026/10/23/controversial-musk-documentary-pulled-from-almost-every-one-of-472-theaters-after-one-week-by-newly-sold-bleecker-street-films
I know that Musk exercised all his influence to ensure that trailers were never released and TikTok refused to allow an account to be created for the film. While some will say it was pulled from theaters because it performed poorly, there are others who think it was simply shut down, which is what Musk always wanted. It may never come to streaming as planned either. So, seeing it at an independent theater like The Claridge (or the Angelika in NYC) may be our only chance to see it. And that's why I'm posting it.
THEATER: We will see the 12:45pm show at The Claridge. For those new to the group, we purchase our tickets on our own and meet afterwards right outside the auditorium where we saw the film. If that space is too tight, we meet in the lobby. The Claridge is general admission so there are no seat numbers to post. If folks want to save seats for each other that's fine but I did that all weekend at the MFF so I am not volunteering for that job! You can get your tickets here: https://www.montclairfilm.org/cinemas/venues/the-clairidge/
DISCUSSION: Venue is TBD pending RSVPs, but I can promise that it will be wonderful! We will enjoy a great meal and we will deserve it!
Here's more about the film:
Musk is a 2026 documentary film directed by Alex Gibney. It follows the billionaire businessman Elon Musk, and his enormous influence in contemporary right-wing politics. The film had its world premiere out of competition at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival on September 8, 2026.[4] It was released theatrically in the United States by Bleecker Street on October 9, 2026.
RUN TIME: 3hr 52minutes with an intermission
OUR NO SHOW POLICY:
• If you RSVP and your plans then change, we ask that you notify us and change your RSVP as soon as possible - definitely before the start of the event. It's unfair for the group to wait around after the film for people who do not show up. And it fouls up reservations made at the restaurants we visit. NO SHOWS WILL NOW BE WARNED ONCE AND REMOVED FROM THE GROUP AFTER THE SECOND OCCURRENCE. We keep a list of no-shows - please change your RSVP prior to the start of the event so you don't end up on it! Thank you for your consideration.
WAIVER, RELEASE, AND ASSUMPTION OF RISKS
• This is a show-up at your own risk event. This meetup group does not take any responsibility for any health risks that might happen during this event. When you RSVP you are accepting these terms upon yourself and your guests (if any). I hereby waive, release, and discharge the Meetup Group and its officers, leaders, volunteers, employees, organizers, sponsors, members, and participants from any claims for personal injury, property damage, or death resulting from my participation in any of this group’s events. My RSVP and/or participation in this event is my signature on this waiver
