Guillermo del Toro's "Frankenstein"
Details
Guillermo del Toro's version of Mary Shelley's classic work "Frankenstein" has already received some glowing words from The New Yorker, Rolling Stone, and even members of our group who've already seen it ("raises many interesting moral questions", "The visuals were breathtaking. In the spirit of Mary Shelley's novel, the story gives the creature humanity."), so we'll check out those visuals on the Davis' screen! The movie has been described as considerably more faithful to the novel, so it will be fascinating to examine the similarities and distinctions to that work (which you can read yourself at Project Gutenberg): https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/84
After the movie, we'll head to the nearby Daily Bar on 4560 N. Lincoln to talk about these comparisons and how much or little of those elements have emerged into the other "Frankenstein" films made so far. Tickets to the screening are $12, and you can pick them up in advance from: https://davistheater.com/purchase/1003312/ (NOTE: Daylight Savings Time ends on Sunday, so check / adjust your time sources accordingly)
