Northwestern professor Nick Davis concludes his 2025 film lecture series with a look at Brazillian director Kleber Mendonça Filho (whose latest film played the Chicago International Film Festival and will get to general release later this year!) Davis provides a wonderfully thorough yet accessible and fun look through film topics ranging from Iranian New Wave films to Asian romances to an appreciation of set and sound designs, and here he'll be showing the range of a director whose work is "spanning melodrama, documentary, and horror, always with an eye on politics". This will include discussion of his 2016 character drama "Aquarius" and pulp horror movie from 2019 "Bacurau", plus clips of 2013's "Neighboring Sounds" and 2023's "Pictures of Ghosts".

Afterwards we'll head to the Centennial brewpub two blocks away at 733 N LaSalle to talk about his 'Filhography' and Davis' impressions on those movies, plus how they fit with Brazillian cinema as a whole. Admission to the 90 minute lecture is FREE, but it's recommended to sign up so the organizers have a better track of attendance, which you can do from this link: https://www.chicagofilmfestival.com/event/diggingdeeper-undercovernolonger/
