The Siskel Film Center is showcasing the career of Agnès Varda in May, and on the 24th is giving an opportunity to view two of her later documentary films! At 11:30 they'll show "Varda by Agnès", her 2019 final film which she uses as a whimsical yet inspired look back at her own career from her start in film and photography to her later work on art installations. After that at 2:30 they're showing "The Gleaners and I", where she takes the group of people who take food otherwise disposed in French markets to give a deeper look into recycling and reuse from food to objects to art to ideas.
Both films are great explorations from a singularly inquisitive and inspired talent, but if you can only see one, it's well worth at least catching the "Gleaners" screening at 2:30. Either way, since these are playing at Siskel's smaller theater, picking up tickets for them in advance ($15) is HIGHLY recommended, which you can do for "Varda by Agnès" at:
