In his Digging Deeper lecture series, professor Nick Davis perpetually provides an amazing film clinic, showcasing elements like sound design, Romanian films, and directors like Bong Joon-ho and Pawel Pawlikowski in a comprehensively illuminating yet accessible and fun way. In advance of the Chicago International Film Festival presentation of "Tender Loving Care" he'll be looking into the career of its director, Mike Leigh. Leigh is a legend of British filmmakers - it will be a treat to have Davis explore and expand on what makes his filmmaking (particularly his collaboration with actors) so special!

After the lecture we'll head to the Emerald on 216 N Wabash where we'll talk about his film work, its origins in the "kitchen sink drama" tradition, as well as how his techniques and attitude compare to directors like John Cassavettes, Robert Altman, and Martin Scorsese. The 80 minute lecture is FREE, but considering the usual demand at CIFF, it's HIGHLY recommended to reserve tickets in advance which you can get to via this link: https://www.chicagofilmfestival.com/event/diggingdeeper-mikeleigh/

(Note: despite the event having "Tender Loving Care" in the title, this lecture does NOT include screening that movie)
