Despite receiving what Metacritic calls "universal acclaim" on its initial release, the rock musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch suffered from a limited showing and went down as a financial flop. Today it's considered one of the greatest cult films of all time, frequently compared to another cult rock musical, The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Based on the hit off-Broadway musical of the same name, Hedwig and the Angry Inch follows the journey of Hedwig, a gay East German rock singer, as she navigates love, identity, and betrayal after a botched sex-change operation and the theft of her music by a former lover.
Note that this is a one-time showing. Look for Chip in the Tower lobby at 6:45 for a 7:00 p.m. showing, and stick around after the credits to discuss this unique film, celebrated for its wild energy, offbeat humor, bold style, and unique blend of outrageousness and heart.
