HIKE DETAILS

We will hike the purple trail and silver trails in what was formerly Camp Hook and hike the green trail in Twin Creek Metro Park. This is a very nice place for a night hike. The trails are wide and easy to follow and we will cross an open area so that we can see the moon and stars if they make an appearance. Pace will be moderate, and we will stop for a short break.

WHAT TO BRING

Bring water, source or light (a must), and trekking poles. Dress accordingly in layers. I have extra sets of trekking poles that I can bring if anyone needs. Just message me and I will help you out.

GETTING THERE

Follow St Rte. 725 west through Miamisburg. Take St Rte. 4 south through Germantown; turn left on Eby Rd. Turn left on Chamberlain Road. At the bottom of the second hill, turn right on Morningstar Road. Park entrance is on the right.

Meet at the Lake George fishing pier parking area as indicated on the image below. Do not trust your GPS. MORE ABOUT THE TWIN CREEK METROPARK

This peaceful place is one of Five Rivers MetroParks’ most expansive and untouched natural parks, and it is not unusual for visitors to take a long hike without seeing another person. Miles of trails stretch throughout the property. You will never see the same view twice as the leaves in this park change color and along the 22-mile Twin Valley Backpacking Trail (http://www.metroparks.org/tvt). See if you can catch glimpses of squirrels storing acorns for winter, or sit quietly in the morning or at dusk for the deer to emerge from their hiding spots.

The southern 267 acres of Twin Creek Park were originally Camp Hook Boy Scout Camp, founded in 1926. It ran as a summer camp until 1991. Purchased by MetroParks in 1997.

INTERESTING STUFF

From Haunted Ohio Website
On Morningstar Road near Germantown, a group of kids out drinking and driving saw a woman on the side of the road, beckoning to them. They followed, attempting to help her, but she disappeared.
They later learned that a house had stood where they had seen the woman, and that it had burned down with children inside. The mother, unable to save her children and insane with grief, ran into the woods, fell, and broke her neck.

The woman is said to haunt Morningstar Road to this day.
