The mission of the non-profit Elkin Valley Trails Association (EVTA) is to increase the quality of life in the Elkin Valley by building and promoting a network of trails and greenways. These trails and greenways will provide educational opportunities, preserve our area history, promote health, wellness and a healthy lifestyle, provide economic opportunities, provide a unique birding opportunity, and offer organized hikes for visitors and residents of the area.

Elkin is located in the heart of the beautiful Yadkin Valley wine growing region and is in a unique location to be a hub for local trails. We are in the Foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, less than half an hour from Stone Mountain State Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway. We are at the confluence of the Overmountain Victory Trail, the Yadkin River Trail Blueway, and the beginnings of our big project, the E&A Rail-Trail, which will ultimately be the Mountains-to-Sea Trail between Stone Mountain State Park and Elkin/Jonesville and Pilot Mountain State Park. We love the trails in the Elkin Valley, and will become known as a “Trail Town.”

Naturalist Walk - April

Join naturalist Bill Griffin for a hike along Elkin Creek and the E&A Trail on Friday morning, April 14.

The earliest March blooms have faded to seed; what new arrivals will we discover in April?

Besides delicate wood anemone and perhaps wild geranium, showy shrubs and trees are blooming.

Listen -- migratory songbirds may be passing through.

Meet at 8:30 in the parking lot at the north side of Elkin Recreation Center. Wear sturdy shoes; we will walk the Rustic Trail and Elkin Creek up and over trail.

Bring field guides, binoculars, notebook, and curiosity!

We will plan a third hike in this series on May 12 - and will be posting this event as it gets closer to May.

Watch for a future notice, and follow the seasonal progression of flora and fauna along this part of the MST!

Rain or shine - RSVP for updates and last minute notices.
