The mission of the non-profit Elkin Valley Trails Association (EVTA) is to enrich the quality of life in the region by building and promoting a network of multiuse trails.
Our vision- while observing and promoting leave no trace principles, these hiking, biking, running, paddling, and equestrian trails will promote a healthy lifestyle, provide educational and economic opportunities, preserve our history, and allow for organized events.
Elkin is located in the heart of the beautiful Yadkin Valley wine growing region and is in a unique location to be a hub for local trails. We are in the Foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, less than half an hour from Stone Mountain State Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway. We are at the confluence of the Overmountain Victory Trail, the Yadkin River Trail Blueway, and the beginnings of our big project, the E&A Rail-Trail, which will ultimately be the Mountains-to-Sea Trail between Stone Mountain State Park and Elkin/Jonesville and Pilot Mountain State Park. We love the trails in the Elkin Valley, and are considered a “Trail Town.”

NC Trails Days - Basin Creek Trail to Caudill Cabin
Flat Rock Ridge Trailhead, 7890 Longbottom Road, Hays, NC, USCome join us on this local classic out-and-back trail to the historic Caudill Cabin, the remnant of the Basin Cove community destroyed by the 1916 flooding. The first 1.7 miles to the primitive campground is scenic and easy. We then follow the rugged trail ascending 3.5 or so miles to the cabin site for a lunch break before heading back. Expect 10+ miles round trip.
On the rugged part, there are over 20 creek crossings (each way!); expect most or all to be "wet foot." Your feet will get wet, so be ready for it.
A hiking stick or trekking pole(s) are strongly recommended. Bring enough water and food, proper apparel, footwear, rain gear, sunscreen/bug repellant, and other gear for the day hike. Local history and foraging to be discussed.
