Details
2026 Naturalist Walks - Spring Wildflower Progression along the Elkin Nature Trail
Sponsored by Elkin Valley Trails Association
.
Four hikes with local naturalist Bill Griffin. From March through April we will witness dozens of varieties blooming in sequence, beginning with Hepatica and ending with Wild Geranium . . . and many more!
.
Each hike begins at 8:30 AM at the Elkin Recreation Center, north parking lot and will last about 2 hours. Not strenuous. Rain or shine – dress for the weather. Optional: bring field guide, binoculars, notebook. Kids welcome!
.
NOTE: the study of natural cycles is PHENOLOGY. When do flowers bloom? When do migratory birds return? When do certain insects hatch?
.
Join us as we combine beauty, wonder, companionship, and science!
.
DATES: March 7, March 28, April 11, April 25
.
Park at the Elkin Recreation Center and meet at the corner of the parking lot near the walking track. There are public bathrooms in the Rec Center.
