NC Trail Days - MST supported Section Hike, Doughton to Stone Mountain
Details
NCTD's MST section hike will start Thursday west of Doughton Park and hike 8 miles to the #2 group campsite at the Doughton campground for the overnight. On Friday a 10 mile hike follows the MST through Devil's garden overlook and down the escarpment to Stone Mountain "backpacker's" parking lot.
Meet at the backpacker's parking area on Thursday morning at 9 am. Shuttles will be provided to the intersection of Pruitt Cove Road and the Blue Ridge Parkway. If you prefer to "slack-pack", your gear will be taken to the camping site. A late lunch will be "on your own" perhaps at the Bluffs restaurant which is on the MST. After lunch, the hike will continue to the Group camping site number 2 (section C) just off the MST. Dinner and snacks will be provided.
Friday morning will start with ham/sausage biscuits and coffee.
The MST continues to hug the Blue Ridge parkway to Devil's Garden overlook. From here your hike enters Stone Mountain State Park and drops down the escarpment to the backpacker's parking area where your car awaits your return to Elkin.
