Scottsdale Mountain Bikers

Scottsdale Mountain Bikers is teaming up with the McDowell Sonoran Conservancy to offer fun and educational group rides.

Ride Overview: The Maricopa Trail is a 315-mile recreational trail that circles the entire Phoenix metro area. The Maricopa connects all nine of the regional parks and travels over 20 miles through the McDowell Sonoran Preserve.

This 16.5 mile ride will cover the Brown’s Ranch portion of the Maricopa Trail going north from Fraesfield trailhead, with the return route through the heart of the Preserve back to Fraesfield. We will stop periodically for some interesting history and stories about the Maricopa Trail.

Difficulty Level: This route is best for intermediate or better riders. We will ride at a moderate pace of 8-9mph average at Browns. Good cardio is necessary as well as the ability to ride up and down steeper pitches. All our rides are “No Drop” meaning no rider will be left behind the group.

Distance & Elevation Gain: This will be 16.5 miles and 760 feet of elevation gain. Expect a 3 hour ride at a moderate pace (appx 8-9 mph average speed at Browns).

Mountain Bike Event Requirements: Helmets are mandatory for all bike events. A mountain bike with wide knobby tires is required – please, no road bikes, hybrids, or folding bikes. Your bike must be in good working order – please check the tires, brakes, chain and general functionality before leaving home.

E-bikes are allowed. You are expected to ride at the group speed and be cautious about passing or encountering others on the trails.

What to Bring: A backpack with 2-3 liters of water, spare tubes and tools plus energy snacks. Restrooms are available at the trailhead. It’s always smart to have a paper map or mapping app in case you get separated from the group.

Arrive 15 minutes before start of the ride for check-in and a brief bike inspection.

WAIVER, RELEASE, AND ASSUMPTION OF RISKS
I/we hereby waive, release and discharge the Meetup group Scottsdale Mountain Bikers and its officers, ride leaders, volunteers, employees, organizers, sponsors, members, and ride participants from any and all claims by me or my guests for personal injury, property damage, or death resulting from my/our participation in any Scottsdale Mountain Biker event.

I/we acknowledge that mountain biking is a high-risk sport. I/we realize there are certain dangers inherent in the sport of mountain biking, and I/we assume these risks with the full understanding that injuries may result from my/our participation in any event.

I intend this release to discharge the above-named from any and all liability arising from or connected in any way with my/our participation in any event, even though that liability may result from the negligence or carelessness of the above named.

I/we certify that my/our bicycle is suitable for safe use in all events, that I/we are in good physical condition, and that I/we are able to complete the event.

I/we agree to wear a bicycle helmet properly adjusted and fastened and approved by SNELL or ANSI.

I/we have read this waiver and release and fully understand its terms and agree that it shall be binding on my/our heirs and assigns. I/we consent to emergency transportation and care at my own expense if injured or ill.
