What we're about
Upcoming events (1)
Fall is a beautiful time to ride in the McDowells - and what better way to do it than with friends at the awesome Ironwood campground in McDowell Mountain Park.
I will be located at site # T12 - if you want to be assured you have a camp spot and parking better reserve now !
The Escondido trail runs right by the campsite so that's where we'll start. Ride one day or all of them. We will do a mix of easy & intermediate trails , long rides, short rides, and some hard stuff - whatever the crew wants to do. Planning on food, drinks, music and fun after and in between the rides of course.
My plan is to get there mid-day on Friday, Nov 5, stay through Sunday noon (check out time) Nov 7. Fortunately, it does not look like there are any races scheduled that weekend, but if there are, we will take routes around the race course(s).
NOTE 1 : As of[masked] there are still 3 spots left in the campground so make your reservation now if you want to camp !
NOTE 2: I am limiting the number of participants to 20 - however I may reconsider if the wait list grows so get on the wait list if the roster fills up.
NOTE 3: Please understand that PARKING IS LIMITED. If you are not reserving a campsite or you do not plan on camping with someone who does - you may have to park in the overflow lot or one of the trailheads and ride to the event. I do not want to get in trouble with park rangers by having 20 cars parked at the campground or infringe on other campers in the area.
NOTE 4: Due to group size , we may split up into two or more groups - for instance - fast, intermediate, beginner, etc. Beginners are welcome, but this is not a "no drop" ride. All participants are expected to be able to ride their own ride and find their way back to base camp if they get tired or need to drop out. I suggest the trail forks app for navigation - fortunately its not real easy to get lost here and cell service is good.
NOTE 5: Bring snacks, sunscreen, water for the ride & food / cold beverages and food for after to hang out. If the temps are warm enough and anyone still has energy - we may organize a night ride so bring headlamps just in case.
HELMETS ARE MANDATORY
All riders need to be equipped with:
• A well maintained bike with tires suitable for riding on dirt trails and preferably with sealant to prevent flat tires.
• Helmets and hydration are mandatory. You will need at least 70 ounces of water as there is no water along the way.
• Make sure you have bars or snacks for refueling.
