🎲 Board Game Nights – Small Groups, Big Games & Good Company

This group is for people who genuinely enjoy board games and prefer a more personal setting: relaxed game nights in our homes with around 4 to a maximum of 8 people.

I’ve been playing board games for many years and nowadays I mainly enjoy medium to heavier strategy games – roughly what BoardGameGeek would describe as medium to heavy in terms of Weight.

Some favourites are Woodcraft, Civolution, The Fate, Istanbul, The Adventures of Robin Hood, Cartographers, Blood Rage and especially Dice Throne. I also enjoy Kickstarter games, painting miniatures and learning completely new games together. Sometimes that means a short rules explanation; sometimes it takes several sessions before a game really clicks. That’s part of the fun for me. 🎨🎲

I currently own around 60 games and counting. Games in English are absolutely fine as well.

🌍 Internationals are very welcome.

I speak several languages, have lived in Latin America and used to be a Couchsurfing host. As a German teacher, I can also usually judge quite well whether a German-language game is suitable for someone who is still learning the language.

🏡 Why small home game nights?

I enjoy the atmosphere of playing around someone’s kitchen or living-room table much more than anonymous large events. You actually get to know each other, share a hobby and sometimes friendships grow from it.

🏡 Small groups & a few ground rules

Our game nights usually take place in private homes with around 4–8 people. Because places are limited, an RSVP does not automatically guarantee a spot.

For each event, I may select participants based on group size, a meaningful Meetup profile and creating a friendly, balanced group.

Respect, friendliness and good sportsmanship matter. Competitive games are absolutely welcome; aggressive behaviour, making others uncomfortable or repeatedly ignoring group boundaries is not.

This is also not a dating group – we are here because we share a hobby.

Members who repeatedly disregard these principles may be removed from the group and, where appropriate, reported through Meetup.

🐈 Please note: Three cats live in my home and are very much part of it. If you have a significant cat allergy or are uncomfortable around cats, events hosted at my place may unfortunately not be suitable for you.

🥤 Drinks & food

At events hosted by me, still and sparkling water as well as tea are always available.

I usually also have a selection of beer, Radler, alcohol-free drinks, Spezi, soft drinks and sometimes wine or Spritz. These are available for a small contribution towards costs, which will be stated in the individual event description.

Snacks are always welcome. For longer sessions, we may occasionally have a shared buffet where everyone brings something – dishes or snacks from your home country are especially welcome. 🌍

🏔️🌊 Würfel Berg und Welle

This Meetup group is also connected to my small board-game project Würfel Berg und Welle.

The idea is to organise small board game retreats in special places around Germany – perhaps by the North Sea, in the mountains or in cosy self-catering group houses.

A weekend or even a week of board games, hiking, exploring the area, alpaca walks, art, mindfulness and occasionally a little meditation – while keeping board games at the heart of the experience.

You can also find the project on Instagram under Würfel Berg und Welle.

The primary purpose of this Meetup group is community, shared game nights and meeting like-minded people.

Let’s see what grows from there. 🎲😊
