Rainy day hike to see the Waterfalls. Cataract Falls. 5.6 miles. 1350 ft.
Details
Hi Ladies,
This is a RAINY DAY hike. Please only sign up if you intend to hike in the rain. It will be canceled if the storm becomes very bad. Keep posted here. But we plan to hike in the rain this Sunday. Please remember after 2 "no-shows" (cancelations with less than 24 hours notice count as a "no-show"), you're out of the group. Also, I have noticed that a few of you like to sign up but rarely or never come. Those whom constantly do that will also be out of the group. Please be respectful of the time and money it takes me to lead these hikes and to the other members. Thank you!!
It will be fun to enjoy the waterfalls after the rain. This is an out and back hike. We will start the hike at Rock Springs trailhead, hike all the way down to the southern tip of Alpine Lake, then back up the trail.
The first half of the hike is mostly downhill, and the way back is mostly up. It may be a challenging climb for some, but very rewarding, as the scenery is beautiful. Please bring your rain gear!!
The trail is steep and rocky in some parts and there are lots of steps. Hiking is generally very slippery right now, so I HIGHLY recommend bringing poles. Wear good hiking shoes/boots, and bring waterproof layers, water and snacks if you might need them.
Total of 5.6 miles and 1348 elevation gain. But please note that it is somewhat steep in some spots.
We'll meet at the Rock Springs parking lot. There are outhouses there, but no drinking water. Not really any bathrooms on the way. (There is one close to the beginning but it's pretty nasty.) And sometimes there is an outhouse at the halfway point (end of Alpine Lake).
Bring the usual: snacks, water, rain gear, poles, sun protection, etc. We'll stop for snacks/lunch when needed.
Please have "boots on" and be ready to hike at 9:15.

Speed:
Please note that we hike at about 21-25 minutes per mile (sometimes 22/23) on average, even while going up and down. We don't rush but we also don't take a lot of breaks. We make bathroom, water and short snack breaks and sometimes take a photo or two. We stop at junctions to make sure we're all together. If it's a longer hike, we may stop for lunch and that will be included in the hike description above. Please know your fitness level and be sure you can keep up. If you are significantly slower, you will be asked to turn around or hike on your own.
Elevation:
If the elevation statistics means nothing to you, think of it as:
1000 feet of elevation gain = ~100 flights of stairs.
Please look at the stats and know what you're signing up for and that you have the fitness level required for the hike.
IMPORTANT:
For the safety and well-being of the group, please take into consideration the distance/elevation gain-loss and your own fitness level when signing up for a hike. As the group leader, I organize hikes but please note that I take no responsibility for your safety. If signing up for a hike, please agree that you are responsible for your own well-being. Sorry, no dogs. Please note that there's a 2 "no-shows" and last minute (less than 24 hours) removal from group policy. Please be courteous to the group and be on time so we can stick to the schedule. Thank you!
