Advanced In-Database Analytics with GPUs (speakers from IBM Watson & Kinetica)

Free beer & drinks, food, swag + win a VR-Headset!

Hillery Hunter, Leader of the IBM Watson Accelerated Cognitive Systems Research
Karthik Lalithraj, Principal Solutions Architect, Kinetica

A Database Month event

In this talk, you will see how GPU-accelerated computing gives you the ability to complete an aggregate query against a table with 4 billion records in 250ms or less. Complex aggregates that require table scans can now be performed in a fraction of the time.

Data analytics has changed dramatically over the last decade. We started with traditional RDBMS and distributed storage, and moved to advances in in-memory analytics with NoSQL. Today, GPUs are powering the next generation of data analytics and compute, bringing high-performance computing and real-time analytics to industry-standard hardware and enabling new enterprise solutions.

You will also learn in this session how to implement GPU-accelerated computing into your existing infrastructure, with comprehensive integration with the Hadoop ecosystem (Kafka, NiFi, Storm, Spark) and with common BI and SQL tools (Tableau, Kibana and Caravel), fully supported APIs (REST, C++, Java, Python, JavaScript, Node.js), native visualization and geospatial capabilities , and NLP-based full-text search.

Hillery Hunter, Leader of the IBM Watson Accelerated Cognitive Systems Research

Hillery Hunter leads Accelerated Cognitive Systems research and serves as the Research Memory Strategist at IBM's T.J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY. She is interested in cross-disciplinary technology topics, spanning silicon to system architecture to achieve new solutions to traditional problems.

Her current team's work spans from computer architecture through systems and algorithms, with a focus on accelerators, and machine and deep learning. Dr. Hunter received the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and is a member of the IBM Academy of Technology.

Karthik Lalithraj, Principal Solutions Architect, Kinetica

May I bring a guest to this meetup? There were no tickets or request for full name, so I figured it's just a walk-in event.

Yes, guests are totally okay. There are no tickets, it's all free, but everyone attending (guests or otherwise) should rsvp "yes" on this meetup. See you tonight!
