For those of you who are not aware, NaNoWriMo (abbreviated for National Novel Writing Month) is a challenge to write 50,000 words in one month (which averages out to a little over 5 pages a day, or 1667 words). The national organization, which lasted 20 years (6 as a non-profit), shut down this past year. But that doesn't mean that the spirit of it can't live on! And that's what we're doing here!

Each day in November, a space will be held at TC Colfax to write for NaNoWriMo. We'll aim to have space for 2-3 hours each day (taking off from TC Colfax on Thanksgiving, of course). We'll send the times for each week on this weekly reminder email.

Now, unlike NaNoWriMo, MagpieWriMo is not about rigid rules that stifle creativity. We do not care if you outline before you come to write. There is no cheating. Straight up, it's hard enough to just get your butt in a seat to write each day. That in itself is a victory. And here, you make your own rules for what you're ready to write. And we'll have a space for it.

Simply, all you have to do is come, sit and write.

That could mean a poem a day. Or a short story every week or two. Or a daily journal. Or one, three or five pages a day. We're here to support each other in being creative. Your goal is yours, and we can do it in community. The time is reserved just for writing and some light socializing of course. But our Thursday night writing forums are reserved for writing and sharing, which will continue through the month as per usual. On those Thursdays, time will only be reserved for the Forum, not for MagpieWriMo.
