What we’re about
LESSONS: I give FREE chess lessons to adults and mature adolescents via Zoom each Monday, 5:45-6:45 (the day and time may change). The Meetup schedule shows Monday and Tuesday meetings, but we only meet on Mondays, and I can't figure out how to eliminate the Tuesday meetings from Meetup.
Our goal is to teach people chess basics and develop their chess skills. Members may also play in our weekly chess meetings in person when we feel the Covid situation makes it safe to do so. The lessons are for beginners and near beginners. We start with the basics--chess rules and how the pieces move. Then we cover opening principles and middle-game tactics, followed by middle-game strategies and a bit on endgame tactics. We practice these ideas with a variety of activities: puzzles, going over my games and trainees' games, and students playing each other with comments from the group. In these activities we reinforce the key ideas and add some endgame principles as well. Occasionally I have a guest speaker describe a specific chess opening or other topic.
