Islands in the Sky Vista Loop in Duncan Mills

Join me for a moderate (but steep) hike at Sonoma Coast State Park located between Jenner and Bodega Bay on Highway 1. We'll climb through emerald-canopied redwoods, where rhythmic fern fronds guide our steps upward. At the top, golden meadows stretch into the horizon—patches of grassy “islands in the sky” that float above sweeping views of the Russian River and the Pacific. It’s a trail that blends quiet forest magic with open-air grandeur—pure Sonoma Coast bliss.

  (4 miles with 928 ft of elevation gain)
• 🚙 Parking: Free
• 📍 Meeting Point: Gold Coast Coffee Shop. Parking is minimal at the park so we'll gather at this delicious coffee shop with fresh hot cinnamon rolls and plenty of parking, then carpool over together.
