Hood Mtn/Gunsight Rock: 9m/2200ft

Join us for a Sunday morning climb up Hood Mountain to the famous overlook at Gunsight Rock!

Assuming we have a clear day, this dramatic rock outcropping offers sweeping panoramic views of the Sonoma Valley, Santa Rosa, and parts of the bay area.

Starting from the parking lot on Pythian, we climb the Bay Area Ridge Trail route up to the Gunsight Rock summit, then loop back to our starting point through Pythian Road and the Rim View overlook.

DIFFICULTY: Moderate
DISTANCE: 9 Miles
ELEVATION GAIN: 2200 feet
PARKING: We will meet at the Pythian Road upper parking lot. It is located 1.3 miles up the North side of Pythian Rd., off Highway 12. There is an $8 fee for parking in the park unless you have a Regional Park parking pass. Bring cash.
PACE: Probably around 20 to 30 minute miles depending on conditions

DETAILS

• MEETING TIME: 8:30 AM. We will depart promptly at 8:40am.
• MEETING SPOT: Hood Mountain Regional Park Parking Lot
• PARKING: Plenty of space in the lot
• RESTROOMS: At the parking lot, but none on the route.
• GEAR: Bring plenty of water and snacks. Dress in layers - we may have AM fog but it will warm up later, and much of this route is exposed to the sun. Poles will be very useful, there are some steep climbs and descents.
