Narragansett Science Reading Club

All curious minds welcome.

The Narragansett Science Reading Club is a casual, in-person group for curious people who enjoy exploring interesting ideas, having thoughtful conversations, and making new friends.

What do we read?

Mostly science articles and essays, with occasional accessible scientific papers, podcasts, and books. We'll use material that's a little more in-depth than typical popular science writing: scientifically rigorous, thought-provoking, and worth discussing, but accessible without specialized training or math.

We might explore the mysteries of quantum mechanics one month, the origins of life the next, or the nature of consciousness after that. The topics are open to wherever our curiosity takes us.

How does it work?

We'll meet about once a month at a local café or other comfortable gathering place in the Narragansett area. Everyone reads (or listens to) the selected material beforehand, then we get together over coffee or drinks to discuss what we found interesting, surprising, confusing, or worth questioning.

There are no lectures, presentations, or homework assignments. Just conversation and a shared interest in understanding the world a little better.

Who is welcome?

Everyone! You don't need a science degree, specialized knowledge, or advanced mathematics. Just curiosity, an open mind, and a willingness to explore ideas with others.

You don't need to understand everything we read, either. Asking questions and figuring things out together is part of the fun.
