NashJS: Panel Discussion - The Actual Impact of A.I. on the Job Market

Details

The Topic: It’s been two years since ChatGPT burst onto the scene, sparking headlines, heated debates, and plenty of “Is AI going to take your job?” conversations with friends and family outside of tech. Now that the dust has settled a bit, what does the landscape really look like? Have we seen big shifts in how developers work, or has the impact been more subtle? What new roles and opportunities have emerged—and how is education keeping up with these changes? To explore these questions, we’ll hear from a recruiter, a CDO, a neurodiverse educator, and an engineer, each bringing their unique perspective on how AI is reshaping careers, skills, and learning in today’s job market.

About the moderator:
Hunter Mitchem, a Tennessee native from Murfreesboro, has been in recruiting for 8.5 years and works almost exclusively with software engineers from IC to Leadership. He now works with a company that partners solely with seed stage to Series B companies backed by firms such as a16z, General Catalyst, Sequoia, Redpoint, and more.

About the speakers:
Trinity Christiana is the Co-Founder and Director of Technical Education at Repped in Tech®, a recipient of the NTC Software Engineer of the Year Award, and the Play Like a Girl Next Gen Leader Award. Trinity is a proud member of the neurodiverse community with 5 years of professional engineering experience. She is driven to ensure that technology, especially AI, becomes a tool that levels the playing field. Her vision is to harness AI not just as a productivity enhancer, but as a transformative system that accelerates career growth and unlocks new opportunities for neurodiverse technologists worldwide.

Daniel Johnson has worked at Netflix as a UI engineer for the past five years. He’s had a role in developing their intern and new grad programs, their hiring processes for senior engineers, and has been an active interviewer himself. Before Netflix, he was an engineering manager at startups and consulting firms in the Boston and NYC areas. He’s always enjoyed the people aspect of software engineering and has even taught programming at bootcamps.

Chris Bybee, a Nashville native, is Chief Delivery Officer at Rōnin Consulting and a veteran technology leader with over two decades of experience in fintech and healthcare IT. He has held senior roles at Jack Henry, Trinisys (now Harmony Healthcare IT), and Rōnin, where he helps organizations tackle complex technology initiatives—from modernizing financial platforms to delivering HIPAA- and HITRUST-compliant healthcare solutions.
