Meeting Time: 2:30 p.m.
Meeting Place: Jones Mill Trail parking lot
Estimated Time: 3 hours
Program Leader: Ranger Leslie
Few parks have more rare species of wildflowers than Long Hunter State Park, and most of these unusual plants are found in the cedar glades. The famous (and extremely rare) Tennessee Coneflower is now at its peak! This will be a wonderful opportunity to see a large population of this spectacular plant.
The Jones Mill Trail and Bryant Grove Trail feature many other rare and unique wildflowers, including Limestone Fameflower, Gattinger's Prairie Clover, Shrubby St. Johnswort, and Prairie Coneflower. Join Ranger Leslie as we search for and ID some of these unusual glade species.
We'll meet up at the Jones Mill Trail parking lot on Barnett Road and hike a mile or two along the trail. Then if we're not too tired, we'll go explore the nearby Bryant Grove Trail for another mile or so. We'll also check out the roadsides along the way.
We will be hiking for approximately three hours, so please bring sun protection, plenty of water to stay hydrated, and your choice of bug repellent.
* Note: I'm posting this here to give Meetup members first dibs, but this event is limited to the first 12 people who sign up and pay on the park website. Once the event is full, the park website will say "Sold Out" and will not allow anymore signups. Thank you!
Directions To Jones Mill parking lot:
Turn into Bryant Grove Recreation Area on Barnett Rd. (9933 Barnett Rd, Mt. Juliet, TN 37122) and go about a half-mile, then turn left into the paved Jones Mill Trail parking lot.
