After the success of our Kayaking field trips earlier this year, many participants appreciated the time to relax and chat in the vehicle and the ability to take a nap on the way home.

Field Trip: Mammoth Caves NP + Corvette Museum
Home of the world's longest cave!

  • 7:45 AM Meet @ Shelby Bottoms
  • 8:00 - 9:30 Drive w/ guide (approx. 90 min)
  • 9:30 - Arrive Visitor Center
  • 9:30 - 11:00 Time to explore on own (approx. 90 min)
  • 11:15 - 1:15 Daily Historic Tour (2 hours/2miles)
  • 1:30 - 2:30 Lunch (Guests bring or buy @ )
  • 2:30 - 3:00 Drive from Mammoth Caves to Corvette Museum
  • 3:00 - 4:30 Corvette Museum (approx $25)
  • 4:30 - 5:30 PM Drive w/ guide (approx. 90 min)
  • 5:30 PM Return @ Shelby Bottoms

CAVE TOUR DETAILS:
Historic Tour @ 11:15 AM
This classic Mammoth Cave Tour visits many of the historic areas that originally made Mammoth Cave famous. Going through tunnels that humans have used for thousands of years, this tour not only explores huge rooms that gave Mammoth Cave its name, but also descends to much tighter places deep inside the cave. Please note that this tour ascends and descends hundreds of stairs and several steep inclines, which can be difficult for many visitors, as there are no alternative routes. This tour is ideal for people with an interest in history and a sense of adventure.
Duration: 2 hours
Distance: 2 miles (3.2 km)
Total Stairs: 540, including 155 at Mammoth Dome
Difficulty: Moderate
Ages: All ages. Individuals under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult age 18 years or older.
Restrooms: Yes
