DevOps: A Beginner's Guide - Nicolas Kammerdiener

Details

DevOps is becoming a larger and larger part of companies. As we have begun to grow to larger and larger setups it has required a dedicated team in order to maintain it. Even developers can benefit from understanding the principals and practices of DevOps and the role this discipline plays in helping them build good software.

When you hear terms like Kubernetes, GCP, AWS, Lambdas, and others, have you found yourself wondering what they all mean? Are there issues with using something over another? Why isn’t all of this automated yet? Ultimately DevOps from the outside looking in can be bit intimidating. However, this discipline is quickly becoming a necessary foundation for today’s software-driven world. As larger companies are beginning to embrace this paradigm, it's critical that developers too begin to develop an understanding of this ecosystem. You'll find that having an understanding of the benefits of DevOps can help when it comes to finding a job or just equipping you with the tools to leverage these benefits for yourself in your own development practices.

Nicolas Kammerdiener is a currently a Sr. Systems Engineer at Home Depot, specializing in Kubernetes. He has also worked in the past as a full-stack developer, DevOps engineer, and as as blockchain developer. In his free time, he is a tutor for several development bootcamps, and is an avid Doctor Whovian and Trekkie.
