It’s arguable that the field of UX Design is still struggling to define and, in some cases, legitimize itself, but it is undeniably a field that is growing in importance and relevancy. Where we were once associated with product, software and interaction design, we are now being asked to look at the way organizations work: soft interactions, micro interactions, human-computer interactions. The possibilities are broad and exciting and increasing every day.

"The desire to be more like the hard sciences has distorted economics, education, political science, psychiatry and other behavioral fields. It’s led practitioners to claim more knowledge than they can possibly have. It’s devalued a certain sort of hybrid mentality that is better suited to these realms, the mentality that has one foot in the world of science and one in the liberal arts, that involves bringing multiple vantage points to human behavior.” - David Brooks, Heroes of Uncertainty

When are we borrowing from the scientific process? When are borrowing from psychology? When are we simply tapping into our essential humanness to make a connection with another human? When is it time to look at internal processes for design and development?

Emily Sapp will be talking about her experiences with qualitative research and encourages members who have experience with quantitative research to chime in and round out the discussion.

Emily Sapp is a visual designer turned experience designer. She got her start designing for Portland’s NBA team the Trail Blazers and continued to work with the national brands and indie businesses that call Portland home. She loves that the field of design offers so much diversity, both in client and discipline.
Upon moving to Nashville, she has become part of the first official UX team at Raven Tools. She’s loving getting to know this city and invites you to tell her about your favorite places to eat, drink and walk.
