About us
Through teachings, practice, and community, the Nashville POC Sangha (pronounced “song-ga” meaning spiritual community in Sanskrit) is a gathering where people of color are invited to meditate together and hold space for whatever is coming up in our practice and in our lives.
Based on the teachings of the Buddha and other wisdom traditions, our mission is to nurture, support, and share liberation. We do this by creating a safe space for meeting our own minds, building a practice of coming home to the present moment, cultivating compassion for ourselves and others, and finding joy through liberation from suffering. We offer guided meditations, dharma talks, facilitated discussions, retreats and other types of community gatherings.
Open to self-identified people of color of all religious traditions. Come as you are.

"We can only awaken within the compassionate arms of our communities together, in solidarity." - Larry Yang in Awakening Together: The Spiritual Practice of Inclusivity and Community
This November, Nashville POC Sangha and Sangha House NOLA - two BIPOC sanghas rooted in the South - will come together in Birmingham for a weekend of practice, healing, connection, and joy. All BIPOC practitioners in the South are welcome to join us!
There is something special about meeting one another across Southern communities: recognizing familiar experiences, sharing what we have learned, making space for what needs to be healed, and remembering that we don't have to practice alone.
This retreat is an invitation to slow down and be together. We’ll sit and walk in meditation, listen to Dharma teachings, share in community, engage in ceremony, visit Birmingham’s Civil Rights District, and make room for music, art, rest, laughter, and joy.
Transportation (van rental), housing (Airbnb), and food options will be provided, and we are fundraising through Givebutter to cover these costs. Any donations made during registration will also go towards those expenses. The teachers and facilitators are sharing their offerings on a dana basis. Feel free to reach out to nashvillepocsangha@gmail.com with any questions.
